When I tell people what I do for a living, I get one of two reactions: “That’s a real job?” and “That’s a real job!!?”
It may not appear to be much of a difference — but those exclamation points are crucial. The first reaction is frequently followed by side eye and doubt, rather than excitement. In the “Who would watch/read that?” or the “Is there enough interest in Disney World for that to even be a possibility?” type of way.
Trust me — I can’t believe this is my actual job. It seems like it isn’t real. It feels like a dream but I’m incredibly grateful that it is.
Let me ask you something: What’s more, if we’re being honest with ourselves, I’ve had the same questions. How is this a job? Why do so many people care about Disney? Why is the Magic Kingdom the most popular theme park in the world when it doesn’t offer the greatest thrills or newest technology (even compared to other Disney parks)? Why do individuals spend hundreds of dollars and return year after year?
