We had a table at California Grill reserved for 7:30 p.m., hoping to be in our seats during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. We were served an amuse-bouche of prosciutto and creamy cheese on toasted bread as we watched the sun set over the lagoon. The bread service followed, where we dipped warm herb-covered rolls in a blend of olive oil and sun-dried tomatoes. Even before receiving our starters, our stomachs were satisfied.

The braised beef short rib wontons served in a spicy chili sauce with pickled lotus root and radishes, which is a long-standing favorite dish of mine, were on the 50th-anniversary menu. I couldn’t pass it up, so I ordered it while also sampling my husband’s sushi and friends’ dishes. The verdict? Everything about the meal was flawless, from the Chardonnay to the Riesling and Cabernet that went with each course.
