Alternatively, hairstylist and afro-textured hair specialist Jenny Roberts suggests “drenching” your hair with water. “If you think your hair is waterproof and takes a long time to completely wet, it has a low porosity,” she explained. Roberts is also an expert on Black-owned brand Wakati and has been on her own quest to figure out her hair porosity type.

“My hair used to be quite porous, but as I’ve gotten older, my hair texture has altered and my porosity has increased, resulting in it retaining more water and becoming wet rapidly.”
