19. Mickey Mouse as slang

The mouse’s name is frequently used as a slang or diminutive. It implies small-time, amateurish, or unimportant.

It’s a rhyming term for guinea fowl. In the United Kingdom, it refers to phony items. It’s an excellent thing in Australia, where it’s used as rhyming slang for grouse.

The Royal Naval Patrol Service’s Motor Minesweepers were called Mickey Mouses during World War II. In the Godfather Part II, Fredo explains his decision to betray Michael by saying: “Fredo will handle some Mickey Mouse night club somewhere!”
